Markdown Better View 1.0.10 — now in your language
Version 1.0.10 · October 10, 2026
Markdown Better View now speaks French, Japanese, Chinese and Estonian — plus a few reading fixes along the way.
New
- Five new languages. French, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese (which also serves Hong Kong) and Estonian join Czech, which is now fully translated. Menus, Settings, banners and the status bar follow your system language.
- The page speaks your language too. Callout titles (Note, Tip, Warning…), the front matter heading and the code Copy button are translated, in the app and in Quick Look previews.
Improved
- Proper dark code blocks. Syntax highlighting now switches to a dark palette in dark mode and dark themes, and flips live when you change appearance — no more light-theme colours on a dark background.
- Word count and reading time for Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Each character counts as a unit and reading time uses a CJK reading speed, so long CJK documents also get the table of contents automatically, like any other.
- Banners no longer cover your document. The folder-access prompt (and the trial and file-deleted notices) now push the page down instead of hiding its first lines.
Markdown Better View 1.0.9 — links between your Markdown files just work
Version 1.0.9 · September 24, 2026
Documentation rarely lives in one file. This release makes hopping between them effortless.
New
- Links to other Markdown files open in the app. Click
[guide](docs/guide.md) — relative paths, subfolders, ../, absolute paths and file:// all resolve against the document you’re reading, and the target opens in a new tab. If its folder isn’t accessible yet, a single Grant Access step opens it right away (and remembers the folder).
- See where a link points. Hover any link and the target path (or URL) shows in the status bar and as a tooltip — handy in reading mode, where the status bar is hidden.
- Right-click menu. Copy Path and Reveal in Finder for the document you’re reading; on a link to a local file, also Open Linked File, Copy Linked File Path and Reveal Linked File in Finder. Reload now re-renders the document properly.
Markdown Better View 1.0.8 — the local-images prompt you can't miss
Version 1.0.8 · September 15, 2026
A small fix prompted by the first support email.
Improved
- When a document references images kept in another folder, the “Grant Access” prompt is now far easier to notice — a clear amber bar instead of a faint strip that could disappear under Night Shift or f.lux. No more wondering why local images didn’t show up.
Markdown Better View 1.0.7 — much faster launch, Copy on every code block
Version 1.0.7 · July 30, 2026
Two fixes that make everyday reading smoother.
Improved
- Much faster launch. Opening a document is instant again. Startup could be held up for tens of seconds by an internal rebuild — most noticeably on Macs running on-access antivirus. It now reuses its cached data and renders right away.
Fixed
- The Copy button is back on every code block, including plain fenced blocks with no language.
Markdown Better View 1.0.6 — zoomable diagrams and a window that remembers
Version 1.0.6 · July 29, 2026
A small, comfortable update.
New
- Zoom any Mermaid diagram — click a rendered diagram to open it full-screen, then zoom toward your cursor with the scroll wheel, a trackpad pinch, or ⌘+/⌘−. Click anywhere or press Esc to close.
Improved
- The window remembers its size and position across quit and relaunch, instead of always reopening at the default size.
- Fixed a rare zoom glitch on reload.
Markdown Better View 1.0.5 — your default Markdown viewer, plus reliability fixes
Version 1.0.5 · July 13, 2026
Everything since 1.0.3, in one release.
New
- Set it as your default Markdown viewer — one click at first launch, or any time from Settings
- Quick Look now works for
.mdown and .mkd files — previews and Finder thumbnails, not just .md/.markdown
- Quick links in Help and About — jump straight to Integrations, the website, or rate the app on the App Store
Improved
- Follow Edits keeps tracking your changes even right after a theme or appearance switch — no more stopping mid-stream until you restart
- Faster page loads, plus smoother live updates for large images and Mermaid diagrams
- Quicker app launch
Fixed
- A zoom glitch where a reload could briefly double-scale the page
- Recovering from a rare WebKit hiccup now re-renders your document instead of leaving a blank window
Also new: a direct download. Markdown Better View is now available outside the
Mac App Store too — a notarized download with a 14-day trial and automatic
updates. See the download page. The Mac App Store remains the
simplest way to buy.
Markdown Better View 1.0.3 — recents, code copy & a fresh coat of paint
Version 1.0.3 · June 12, 2026
Quality-of-life update on top of 1.0.2.
New

- Redesigned Settings and Integration windows — cleaner, grouped, easier to read
- The
mbv terminal tool can now also be installed via Homebrew (brew install xxBedy/tap/mbv)
- Opening a file from the terminal now brings the window to the front; AI tools keep updating it quietly in the background
Improved
mbv 1.1.0: opens in the foreground by default; use -b for silent background updates
Markdown Better View 1.0.2 — smoother live reload, built-in Help
Version 1.0.2 · June 11, 2026
A big quality update focused on working alongside your editor and AI tools.
New
- Seamless live reload — the page no longer flashes when your file changes, and you never lose your place while reading
- Follow Edits mode (View menu) — the preview automatically scrolls to whatever just changed. Perfect for watching an AI assistant write your docs in real time
- Built-in Help — a quick guide to everything the app can do, right in the Help menu
- One-click integration setup — connect your terminal (
mbv command) and AI tools like Claude Code, Cursor or Windsurf from Help ▸ Set Up Integration…
Fixed
- Images with accented or non-English filenames (like
obrázek.png) now display correctly — in the app and in Quick Look
- Clicking an image opens it full size again
- Ordinary dollar amounts ($5 and $10) are no longer mistaken for math formulas
- Table-of-contents links now always jump to the right heading, even for duplicate or formatted headings
- Opening documents via
mdbv:// links from other apps now works reliably
- Many smaller stability and security improvements
